4th September 2024 Simple encouragement is powerful We recently talked with a 54 year old lady who was having suicidal thoughts, we cannot name the lady to protect her identity but we can tell you the context of the story. The point we want to make here is this, simple encouragement is powerful. This lady had recently lost her brother and last year lost her husband. The grieving process was fueling her anxiety and sucidal thoughts. These losses have left the lady isolated and lonely. She has not had anyone to encourage her with any encouraging words. We spent time with her and she spoke a lot of negative things over herself, for example: 1) What do I have to offer the world. 2) I am too old to make a difference. 3) My life is over. 4) ETC ETC ETC. We taught this lady how to speak positively over herself and proved to her she has many great qualities that can help the community. We turned the negatives into positives and got her to speak positively over herself, for example: 1) I do have plenty to offer the world. 2) I am not to old to make a difference. 3) I can get involved in local community initiatives. 4) ETC ETC ETC. Captain Sir Tom Moore One clincher in our conversation that inpsired this lady proving she was not too old to make a difference was the story of Captain Sir Tom Moore pictured below. ![]() Captain Sir Thomas Moore, more popularly known as Captain Tom, was a British Army officer and fundraiser who made international headlines in 2020 when he raised millions for the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. We said if Tom can raise over £30 million for the NHS at the age of 100 then there surely can be no excuse for anyone to say they are too old to make any difference in a community. Simple encouragement can lead people to new and positive trajectories This is the power of simple encouragement. This lady left us bouncing with a big smile on her face and our encounter has led her to a new trajectory where she is believing in herself feeling less anxious and more confident.
